This course will discuss the disease of addiction. Addiction is characterized by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders (DSM) 5 as a substance use disorder. This course will explore the disease model of addiction and provide a general overview of risk factors and other important contributing factors to addiction.
Goals and Objectives
The goal of this course is to assist the reader in understanding addiction and all of its contributing factors. This course will help participants gain the knowledge necessary to understand addiction and challenge current biases (if any). Participants will develop an understanding of the disease model of addiction.
